Our Story

Founded by Julie Gudmestad in Portland, Oregon, Paxson Yoga & Wellness Center offers classes in the Gudmestad Yoga Tradition. Our hatha-style practice is heavily influenced by principles of Iyengar yoga, physical therapy, and anatomy. Our many levels make the practice accessible to most everyone, while offering a path to advance your practice. Whether you are recovering from an injury, dealing with a physical condition, or an athlete with tight muscles, we have a class appropriate for you.
We offer seasonal yoga terms, so you can build a consistent practice that improves mobility, builds strength, and sustains overall wellbeing. We also have year-round drop-in classes so you can find the class that fits your schedule!


Over the years we discovered that yoga is an important piece of the wellness puzzle. The missing pieces are other therapeutic approaches that provide the additional support toward recovery and personal growth.

Today, many of our yoga instructors are certified in other therapeutic modalities such as physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, Pilates, and transformational therapies.

Our Philosophy

Paxson Yoga & Wellness Center is dedicated to improving the lives of those we touch. Our method enhances the ancient practice of yoga by integrating principles of physical therapy for a smart, sustainable practice.

Our practice is built around traditional aims of hatha yoga: cultivating a balance between strength and flexibility, building endurance, and developing self-awareness through precise movement, posture, and breath. By emphasizing proper form and alignment, our skilled instructors can lead students of any age or any level of experience toward their personal goals: improving fitness, reducing stress, recovering from an injury, or aging with grace and independence.

Regardless of your level of experience, each class is an opportunity to leave stress and worry behind while restoring mental and physical well-being.
